Hearing Aid Whistling / Feedback: Causes & Fixes
Work through these in order
- Improper insertion — sound leaks and re-enters the mic — Re-insert until the dome seats fully — whistle on cupping your hand near the ear is normal; constant whistle is not.
- Wax buildup in the ear canal reflecting sound — Have your canals checked for wax; audiologist or ENT removal restores stability instantly.
- Dome too small or hardened with age — Replace domes quarterly; ask us for the next size up if feedback persists.
- Volume raised beyond stable levels — Return volume to prescription level via the app; if you constantly need more, book a free retest — your loss may have shifted.
- Cracked tubing/receiver wire — Inspect the receiver wire for cracks; replacement is a quick service item.
